A solid foundation in math and science is essential to access the careers demanded by the fourth industrial revolution, posing a significant challenge for many South African learners facing barriers to quality education.
EduCate Launches 2023 Roll Out – #BackingTheClassOf2023
EduCate, a groundbreaking public-private partnership between youth-development expert Primestars, the Department of Basic Education, and various corporate sponsors, proudly launched its enhanced 2023 rollout on July 20 in Johannesburg.
Lighting Up the Screens Nationwide
This innovative revision programme reaches learners through cinema screenings, rural school activations, and digital platforms, effectively utilizing the power of media and technology to engage and inspire.
A Pioneering Approach
“EduCate utilizes cinemas as educational Theatres of Learning nationwide. Our objective is to revolutionize the way we teach, making STEM subjects more accessible, engaging, and relevant to learners,” said Primestars MD Martin Sweet.
Equipping Learners for Success
The cinema screenings comprise ten pre-recorded revision sessions, five for math and five for science, comprehensively covering the entire Matric curriculum. The program’s aim is to prepare South African youth from under-resourced areas for their final Matric math and science examinations.
Beyond the Screens – Enriching Opportunities
However, EduCate goes beyond the screenings, offering dedicated math and science textbooks, access to a teacher network, an extended rural reach, and free WhatsApp support, ensuring that learners from schools without cinema access can still benefit.
Inspiring Growth and Transformation
In 2022, EduCate positively impacted over 40,000 matric learners in high schools across under-resourced communities in South Africa. The Impact Report commissioned to evaluate the 2022 Educate cohort revealed a minimum average of 15% improvement in participating students’ results.
Supporting Aspirations and Dreams
Khanya Selane, a learner from Sandtonview Secondary School, emphasized the significance of excelling in these subjects. “Science and maths are crucial for my chosen career path, and I understand the importance of not only passing but achieving excellent marks. The competition is fierce, and I need to stand out. That’s why I rely on the EduCate programme,” he stated.
