Helping Young People Make Informed Career Choices

Primestars’ Career Guidance initiatives help learners understand their career options and the education, skills and qualifications needed to pursue them. By connecting young people with information about real industries and professions, the programmes encourage better-informed decisions and help bridge the gap between learning and future opportunities.

What Is The Programme About?

Making career decisions can be difficult when learners have limited exposure to workplaces, professional role models and post-school pathways. Our career guidance initiatives introduce learners to different industries, help them reflect on their strengths, values and interests, and explain practical routes into careers and further learning.

Our goal is to provide learners with an understanding of the requirements for various careers, encouraging them to explore and take full advantage of the career opportunities that exist. Through interviews or testimonials of real-life professionals, we help learners better understand what to expect in the workplace.

We also direct learners to organizations that can offer support beyond the programme. Ultimately, we aim to equip learners from under-serviced schools with the information they need to make sound career decisions and pursue their dreams.

Through combining knowledge of academics and experienced professionals from industries, it answers the following:

  • What careers are available to me?
  • Is there anyone out there to help me turn my decisions into a reality?
  • With all the career possibilities available, how do I make the decision?
  • Once I know the career path I want to follow, how do I get there?

So how does it work?

Depending on the programme and partner, learners engage with educational media, practical career guides, sector information and supporting digital resources. Activities are designed to make career pathways more understandable and accessible to learners from under-resourced communities.

The programme consists of fourteen 120-minute episodes showcasing over 100 career choices available across 14 industries.
Learners are transported to cinemas nationwide for 14 consecutive sessions on Saturday mornings. For schools outside of cinema reach, the necessary equipment is transported to extend the programme to rural areas.
Each student leaves every session with a Career Guidance Toolkit for future reference, to provide more information and guide them on their journey to their career paths.
To enhance support and engagement, learners can access the free online learning platform primestarsdigital.co.za, zero-rated by Cell C.

Programme Goals

Programme Outcomes

Learners are expected to gain a clearer picture of career choices, entry requirements, relevant strengths and interests, and the actions they can take while still in school. Actual measured results should be drawn from the relevant programme report.
